Spring 2018 Single Payer Action Camp

April 7 to 10, 2018

First Trinity Church
309 E. Street, NW, Washington, DC

Health Over Profit for Everyone, in partnership with the Backbone Campaign, is offering the first Single Payer Action Camp to build participant’s skills in strategy, messaging and direct action to win National Improved Medicare for All. The camp will include workshops on tools for developing strategic campaigns, how to make your message visible, creating media, nonviolent direct action and more. We will put those skills to use on Monday and Tuesday through actions in Washington, DC.

Logistics:

The activities will take place at First Trinity Church, which is close to Capitol Hill. If you participate in the camp, we ask you to attend the workshops and volunteer to help as you are able with art builds and clean up. This will be a team effort.

Travel – First Trinity is across the street from the Judiciary Square Metro stop (Red line) and walking distance from Union Station. Amtrak, GreyHound and Megabus stop at Union Station. National airport (DCA) is also convenient to the church via the metro. Parking on the street is limited near the church. There are pay garages in the neighborhood.

Contact us at info@healthoverprofit.org if you require travel assistance to participate.

Accommodations – We have sleeping space for up to 50 people at First Trinity Church. They provide mattresses and you need to bring a sleeping bag and pillow. We generally keep the noise down between 10 pm and 10 am, but you will be sleeping in the same room as other people. There are wheelchair accessible bathrooms and showers. We ask you to cover the cost of the accommodations if you are able ($35/day for food and lodging). There is a place to lock up valuables when we are out during the day.

There are also hotels nearby. A relatively inexpensive hotel that has large rooms to accommodate groups is Hotel Harrington. There is also a Fairfield Inn and Suites at 6th and G Sts. And there are hostels near Capitol Hill  – Capital View Hostel and the William Penn House.

Food –  We have a full kitchen at First Trinity and will provide three meals a day. We ask you to donate $5/day for food if you are able. There are also restaurants nearby, particularly on the H St (Chinatown) corridor. Let us know if you have dietary needs/restrictions.

Schedule – Click here for the action camp schedule.
